Bad news for everyone currently thirsting over the titular Vampire Lestat in the third season of AMC’s Interview With the Vampire, because the immortal French nobleman-turned-rock star is sadly very much taken IRL. Sam Reid is currently dating fellow Australian actor Philippa Northeast, and the two have been an item for years now—though you might not have realized, since they keep their romance so low-key.
The duo hit their first red carpet together back in December 2019 after co-starring in the rom-com Standing Up for Sunny, and they went on to appear alongside each other in the Aussie TV drama The Newsreader for two seasons. So…what else should you know about Philippa and her quiet romance with Sam? Let’s get into it!
She’s an actor
Like many Aussie actors (including Chris Hemsworth, Isla Fisher, Margot Robbie, Samara Weaving, Naomi Watts, and Heath Ledger, to name just a few), Philippa got her start on the soap opera Home and Away, having landed her role during her first semester at Melbourne University.
For four years, she played Evelyn MacGuire before getting cast in Standing Up for Sunny opposite Breaking Bad star RJ Mitte…as well as Sam Reid.
Filming took place in 2018, and though Sam and Philippa have never confirmed as much, fans are preeeetty convinced that the two began dating around that time.
A few years later, Philippa joined the cast of The Newsreader (which starred Sam) for season 2, reuniting the two on screen.
She’s seemingly been dating Sam since at least 2018
Again, these two have never explicitly confirmed when they started dating, but this hard launch on Philippa’s Instagram grid from November 2018 certainly suggests as much:
The following year, they made things official and hit their first red carpet together.
She and Sam have a dog named Rani
While Philippa and Sam keep their relationship very much under wraps, she did provide a little intel about their romance during a 2025 interview with The Sydney Morning Herald.
According to Philippa, she and her partner (who, as the interview notes, she declined to name) divide their time between Sydney and “a rural property to the city’s south-west,” the latter of which is beloved by their blue heeler, Rani.
“She is our everything, and the hardest thing to be away from when we’re working,” Philippa said of the pup.
She has a good reason for keeping her relationship with Sam out of the public eye
Sam is notoriously private (he’s not even on social media), and while Philippa does provide fans with small glimpses of their relationship, she explained during her interview with The Sydney Morning Herald why they keep things so hush-hush. According to her: “We keep the personal details of our life pretty quiet, because it’s just for us.” Fair enough!
She also revealed that she and Sam got their place in the country during the pandemic. “It was a blessing in a way,” she said of COVID, “because my partner and I moved to the country, we got a dog, we got chickens. We had a blissful experience where we weren’t jetting around to auditions.”
Love this for them.
